Ukraine and Russia are the leading suppliers of Georgian imported beer. The country of Ararat imported 4.703 million litres of beer from Ukraine in 2005 for an amount of US$2.180 million, which is near 50% of the total volume of imported beer. Imported beer volume growth is basically caused by the emergence of the new Tax Code of Georgia, providing a more preferential taxation treatment for beer importers. Besides, the Georgian businessmen declare, that volumes of import of beer can increase again after the Parliament of Georgia will accept the new Customs Code. According to the law project which has been accepted by the Parliament in the first reading, the customs tax for imported beer will decrease from 12 % down to 5 %. We shall note that in 2005 beer imports were processed by 30 companies but now they have almost doubled.
